Authority of Jesus - Exercising Trust in Our Living

Luke 20:1-8
Authority of Jesus - exercising trust in our living
Authority is a tricky thing. We rebel when we think authority has been imposed or presumed upon us. But when we give someone authority over our lives it is a great demonstration of trust and respect. Jesus was only days away from giving His life for all mankind and yet the religious people of the day were challenging His authority, His right to teach the people about the Kingdom of God and call them to live in it.
Jesus knew that the authority that they questioned was directly tied to their trust in God. John the Baptist called people to repent of sin and prepare to follow the Messiah who was sent from God.
Trusting God is like shoveling down through our lives so we can find the road the Messiah is on. When we come to the place where the Messiah is walking we will give him authority because we have trusted Him in letting our lives be uncovered. But if we continue to trust in the ways our lives have been built up then we will not give Jesus authority in our lives and we will not discover the road the Messiah is walking on that leads to God‟s kingdom.
Today, pick up your shovel and begin to trust God in a new area. Begin to dig down through your life, repent of every stone you uncover and cast it aside. With every shovel full say “I am trusting Jesus to show me where His road is going to lead me”. When you come to the road where Jesus walks with you and you look back up through what you have dug out, rejoice that you have a good saviour whom you have trusted and given him authority in your life.
Prayer:
Father,
Help me as I begin to trust you in new areas of my life and give me the courage to believe the road is there for me to uncover. Give me the strength to cast aside the stones and other stuff I have been trusting in to lead me through my life, and help me to keep digging until I reach the road that Jesus walks on. I trust that Jesus will show me how to live in your kingdom.
Action:
Identify specific areas where you are beginning to trust Jesus and give him authority in your life. Complete the sentence…
“I am going to trust Jesus with this area of my life_____________ and I will stop doing this __________”
Meditate:
Isa 40:3-5
A voice of one calling:
"In the desert prepare
the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness, a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be raised up,
every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain.
5 And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
and all mankind together will see it.
“ask where the good way is,
and walk in it,”
Jer 6:16
