"Hosanna" - My King Who Saves Me

Sunday – April 17, 2011 - Passion Week Day 1
Read:  Matthew 21:1-11

Declare “Hosanna” - ―My king who saves me

Jesus enters into Jerusalem as the gentle king who brings salvation. He was not hurried, nor was His pace hectic; he was not forceful or demanding, but like a triumphant king who enters the city with confidence and jubilant gentleness, He knows He is the one who brings salvation to the people of this place.
The road he takes into Jerusalem is laden with a carpet of palms and cloaks if to say “you are so special we don‟t even want your feet to even touch the ground”. This impromptu parade drew everyone‟s attention to the road that carried the king of creation through the gates of the sacred city. Along the road, the people could not help but to sing the praises of an ancient prophesy as He entered, crying out “Hosanna” or “Lord save us”. Though they lived with a Jewish king (Herod) and all the strength of Rome (Pilate) they still intuitively sensed their need for a savior.
You may live safe and secure, in relative comfort and yet your soul cries out for more, a saviour. Our hearts can get trampled by layers of life, be it relational hurts or demanding stress points or the busyness of the day, we build new layers on top of old places yet our soul cries out from the depths for satisfaction. It is here and now that Jesus comes to bring His salvation. Declare today that “Jesus is my king and saviour of my soul”. This is the first step in digging down to the place where you can walk with Him and experience His love for you.

Prayer:

Father, I confess that too often I have lived like I don’t need Jesus and have covered Him over with many other concerns of my life. But, today I declare before you and all creation, that Jesus is my king and the saviour of my life. Thank you Father for bringing me your salvation through your Son. Help me today to live like Jesus is my Lord. Please uncover the areas of my life that keep me from living in the joy of His salvation and experiencing the full passion of His love. Amen.

Meditate:
Isa 35:8-10
And a highway will be there;
it will be called the Way of Holiness.
The unclean will not journey on it;
it will be for those who walk in that Way;
wicked fools will not go about on it.
9 No lion will be there,
nor will any ferocious beast get up on it;
they will not be found there.
But only the redeemed will walk there,
10 and the ransomed of the Lord will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;
everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

“ask where the good way is,
and walk in it,”

Jer 6:16
