Daily Prayer guide - Wednesday, March 25 - The Omnipotence of God - He is all-powerful!

The Omnipotence of God  - He is all-powerful!
Genesis 17:1
“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty”

1 Samuel 17:37
The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”
Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”

Matthew 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Revelation 19:6-7
Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!”

We live in a day where we say, and hear, “If you set your mind to it, you can do anything”.   At the same time we know there are some things that are beyond us; beyond what we can do or think or even imagine.  There are forces greater than we have yet to dream or experience and threats we have yet to overcome.  We face illnesses that do not yet have a cure; we deal with challenges that are greater than our previous giants.

The reign of God and the all-powerful nature of God go hand in hand.   To reign, God must have power, and to reign sovereignly, He must have all power. And that is what omnipotent means, having all power, over all things, seen and unseen, known and unknown.  God possesses what no creature can: an incomprehensible abundance of power, with a potency that is absolute.

Abraham experienced God’s almighty power in the humility of his age.  A young and unlikely David relied on God’s great power in the face of the giant no one could overcome.  The disciples learned of God’s unlimited power in the faithless response of a rich young ruler.  In the Revelation, we get a glimpse of the nature of God’s great power that rules over all creation to his eternal glory.  So, in light of this truth, we can know that no matter what we face today, God’s great power is not only fully capable, but unrestrained and limitless.

“Prayer is the slender nerve which moves the muscle of omnipotence.”
Charles Spurgeon

Take a moment as you begin to pray and recognize you are praying to the most powerful being in all creation, and allow that truth to guide your time…
·      Thank God that there is no one, and nothing, that is greater or more powerful than he is.
·      Ask the God who holds all things in all places secure, to hold your heart and mind; your life and hope; secure in his great power.
·      Ask God to demonstrate his great power to protect your family, church and community from the effects of Coronavirus.
·      Ask God to demonstrate his power over the concerns of your life today and commit to trust him in how he responds.

Father, thank you that nothing is greater or stronger than you.  Thank you that you alone hold all things together by your great power.  Thank you that you hold my meager heart in the gentle strength of your power and I look only to you to keep me, my loved ones and this world together for your good glory.  Amen.
