Daily Prayer Guide - Tuesday March 31 - God Promises to Guide Us
Read:
Psalm 73:23-26
23 Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
Proverb 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Consider:
God’s Word promises that he will guide us. When we don’t know what to do, where to go, or how to proceed, he will be there to help us.
In days like these, where we are limited on where we can go and what we can do, it can be challenging to know how we are to spend our energy. What are we to do with our days? How can God guide us when we have no place to go?
The truth is we have all kinds of places to go; our hearts and minds are still free, even if we are restricted to our homes. Seeking guidance is a habit of character more than an event of counsel. We can fix our eyes on knowing God better and letting him shape our thoughts and attitudes regardless of the situation we find ourselves in. We can let him guide us into the deeper waters of our relationship with him, we can use some time to let him expose our thoughts and attitudes and trust him to show us how they need to be renewed in his presence and strength. We can submit to him our new ways of living with the confidence that he will set the trajectory of our paths when we are able to leave our homes again. This is an opportunity for us to leave our homes differently, when this ends, than the ways we entered our homes at the beginning of this time.
If we use this time to learn to trust God guiding our hearts to make us new then we will trust him to guide our feet in the future.
Today, lets use this prayer from St Augustine to guide our time,
Pray:
You only I love;
You only I follow;
You only I seek;
You only am I ready to serve.
Because you alone are justly Lord,
I desire to be under your rule.
Command, I ask you,
as you will,
but heal and open my ears
that I may hear your voice.
Heal and open my eyes that I may see your beckoning.
Tell me where I must go that I may see you;
and I hope to do all that you command.
Receive, I pray, your fugitive,
most clement Father and Lord.
Enough have I served your enemies
whom you had put under your feet.
Enough have I been the plaything of deceits.
Receive me, your servant, now fleeing from these things.
Amen.
· Thank him for guiding your life – regardless of the certainty of any day.
· Ask God to help you become guidable by his Spirit
· Commit to him to listen for his voice and follow his lead
· Ask him to guide the thoughts and actions of our leaders who are making decisions about our lives today.
Father Thank you for your constant guidance of our lives. Help us to trust that regardless of the circumstances we are facing your guidance in our lives will lead us to you good. Please guide our leaders today in directions that would lead to your goodness and glory. Amen
