Daily Prayer guide - Tuesday, March 24 - The Sovereignty of God - He is in control!
The Sovereignty of God - He is in control!
Psalm 145:13-16
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
Matthew 6:33-34
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Isaiah 32:16-17
The Lord’s justice will dwell in the desert,
his righteousness live in the fertile field.
17 The fruit of that righteousness will be peace;
its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.
When we are facing difficult situations, it is sometimes hard to believe that God is actually in control. When we see troubles all around us, we can be prone to think that God is nowhere to be found, and we must somehow regain the reins of control. When our control seems to elude us then fear begins to grip our hearts and minds.
But the truth is, God is always in control. He is a good God who has sovereignty over all creation, including everything we now or will ever face. There is absolutely nothing he cannot do. God is completely capable and nothing is beyond his dominion. He is a good God who demonstrates his reign and rule over all creation. We can trust that his goodness will ultimately be demonstrated, even if we do not see how in the brief moments of our current experience.
We have the opportunity to trust in his righteous sovereignty and when we do we experience the blessings of his peace. A peace that is demonstrated by greater confidence in him and empowers our strength to face whatever today, or tomorrow, brings.
“To know that nothing happens in God’s world apart from God’s will may frighten the godless, but it stabilizes the saints” J.I. Packer
Allow these scriptures above to guide your thoughts as you pray…
· In your heart, acknowledge God is sovereign over all creation, including a pandemic.
· In prayer, before God, release your control over your life, your family, your resources and ask God to help you trust him more fully.
· In the quietness of this moment, ask him to give you his peace that is greater than any fear.
· Pray for the healthcare workers in your community who are walking into difficult situations to experience his peace as they face their challenges.
Father, thank you that your kingdom is greater, everlasting and stronger than any force on earth. Thank you that in your kingdom we can find your protections, provisions and peace. Help me to live today trusting in your sovereignty. Amen.
