Daily Prayer Guide - Monday, March 23, The Goodness of God

Monday, March 23   -  The Goodness of God

The Attributes of God -  Our faith is grounded in knowing who God is, his nature and his ways.  God never acts separate or independent of his nature, but always acts on the basis of his character.  Being aware of who he is should guide us as we pray to him.

The Goodness of God
Read:
Psalm 119:66-68
Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands.
Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.
You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.

Mark 10:18
“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.

Consider:
In difficult times we may not feel like God is good or we may question whether he is really good at all.  But it is in these times we must draw strength from the truth of who he is, as revealed to us in scripture and allow his goodness to lead us in ways that overcome our fears.

The goodness of God causes him to be kind, concerned and aware of us and our needs, as he demonstrates his goodwill towards all people.  He is tenderhearted and full of sympathy towards our situations and his nearness to us is the evidence of his goodness.  By his goodness he is open and honest with us, teaching us his ways so that we might know him better.

“Divine goodness, as one of God's attributes, is self-caused, infinite, perfect, and eternal. He has never been kinder than He now is, nor will He ever be less kind. He is no respecter of persons but makes His sun to shine on the evil as well as on the good, and sends His rain on the just and on the unjust.”
A.W. Tozer

Our prayers do not place God under obligation or in debt to us.  He hears our prayers because he is good and for no other reason.  Our prayers, by faith, reflect our confidence in God’s demonstration of his goodness to us for his good purposes.

Psalms 145:9  The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.

Pray:
Allow the reflection of God’s goodness to guide you as you pray:
·      Jesus said – no one is good but God alone…Acknowledge that God is good
·      Ask that His goodness would be demonstrated in your life as he teaches you his ways.
·      Ask God that your family would experience his goodness in the midst of your concerns.
·      Ask that God’s goodness would be evident to people in our community who are dealing with COVID-19.

Father, may we experience your goodness in the midst of uncertainty and fear.  You alone are the source of all goodness, may we live in the light of your blessings, today, tomorrow and always.  Amen.
