Spiritual weapons for spiritual battles
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. NIV
We are a people of 2 worlds; we live in both the physical world and spiritual world, and we do this simultaneously. In reality the things of the spiritual world have greater consequence because they are eternal. Our time in the physical world are constrained to time and space, both of which we will eventually run out of, but our existence in the spiritual world continues. It is in the spiritual world that the true battle of good and evil exists, where true and false are clearly seen because they are embodied in light and darkness.
We are not impotent in this spiritual world with the spiritual battle that ensues us. we have weapons that are very different from the physical world and all the more real. The weapons we have with divine power are distinguished by obedience, with obedience comes power. In the physical world, where things are upside down, obedience is rarely connected with power, in fact this world would say the opposite, that independent determination produces power, but that is not a divine power.
With a divine power of obedience to Christ, strongholds are demolished; arguments dissipate; and pretensions, the agendas, missions and purposes of the enemy are destroyed. Why does obedience have this kind of strength? Because it acknowledges God, the one to whom our obedience is directed. All these schemes of the enemy are set up against the knowledge of God who is divine and they can not stand. So we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
We have a responsibility in this; we are the ones initiating obedience, we take action over our own wills, and we are ready to punish disobedience. We take obedience seriously. Obedience is crucial to faithfulness, and truthfulness, we will not be faithful to that which we are not obedient, we are not truthful to that which we are not obedient.
Father: Help me take obedience to you, your word and ways seriously. May I have an attitude that desires and blesses obedience in my life and others. Help me desire you more than myself so that obedience becomes a joy. May I realize the divine power in obedience and live so that its power is evidence of your presence in me.
