Daily Prayer Guide - Passion Week - Sunday "Hosanna"

Declare “Hosanna” - “My king who saves me”

We may not be able to leave our homes, but we can journey with Jesus on his way to the cross and his tomb.
Read: Mathew 21:5-11
“Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ” v
The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” y
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”
11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Consider:  Jesus enters into Jerusalem as the gentle king who brings salvation. He was not hurried, nor was His pace hectic; he was not forceful or demanding. Like a triumphant king who enters the city with humble confidence and jubilant gentleness, Jesus knows He is the one who brings salvation to the people of this holy city.
The road he takes into Jerusalem is laden with a carpet of palms and cloaks if to say “you are so special we don’t even want your feet to touch the ground”. This impromptu parade drew everyone’s attention to the road that carried the king of creation through the gates of the sacred city. Along the road, the people could not help but to sing the praises of an ancient prophesy as He entered, crying out “Hosanna” or “Lord save us”. Though they lived with a corrupt Jewish king (Herod) and all the oppressive strength of Rome (Pilate) they intuitively sensed their need for a savior.
Today our world is facing a pandemic and people are feeling less safe and less secure than they can ever remember being and our souls cry out for help.  Our hearts can get trampled by layers of life.  COVID consumes our minds; the economy and job losses compound our insecurity. All added to our ongoing relational hurts, demanding stress points and the busyness of the day, we build new layers on top of old places and our soul cries out from our depths for satisfaction. It is here and now that Jesus enters into our lives to bring His salvation. Declare today that “Jesus is my king and savior of my soul”. This is the first step in digging down to the place where you can walk with Him and experience His love for you.
Pray: Father, I confess that too often I have lived like I don’t need Jesus and have covered Him over with many other concerns of my life. But, today I declare before you and all creation, that Jesus is my king and the savior of my life.
·      Thank God for bringing you salvation through Jesus, his Son.
·      Ask God to help you live like Jesus is our Lord.
·      Ask him to uncover the areas of your life that keep you from living in the joy of his salvation and experiencing the passion of his love.
·      Ask God to bring salvation to the lives of those who are dealing with the fears and effects of coronavirus.
Father, help me live the declaration that Jesus is my savior and my Lord in all the ways I live today.  In this time of staying in our homes please build your passion into my life so I might praise you for your goodness to our world and me.  Amen.
Meditate:
Isa 35:8-10
And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it. 9 No lion will be there, nor will any ferocious beast get up on it; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed will walk there, 10 and the ransomed of the Lord will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
