Do You Have a Ready Answer?
If someone asked you to explain why you believe in Jesus; why you trust him with your life, what would you say?
1 Peter 3:15 “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”
Would that describe you?
Do you feel prepared to give the reasons for your faith in Jesus. Each of us faces the questions, from friends, family, co-workers, strangers…
While the world would like to associate Jesus with Santa Claus, a story for childish people; can you articulate a reasonable and convincing answer, with gentleness and grace?
When Jesus says "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) does that bring clarity to who you know Jesus to be or confusion?
The world wants Jesus to be someone He is not. They would like Him to be just another messed up guy like the rest of us. That way we could understand Him then, they would think. They could analyze him and categorize him and pass a judgment upon him. But He is not like us. He was both man and God. And He was the only one, in all of creation and history to embody that remarkable fact, can you defend that statement. From the time Jesus showed up on the scene of human history, people have been struggling to understand who He was and what He was about. Those who recognize Him as Christ, the Messiah, the one sent from God to redeem people and restore His Kingdom are the ones who in their hearts have “set apart Christ as Lord” and are now tasked with the responsibility to be prepared to give a the rest of the world and answer for their faith in their Lord.
This week there are several opportunities to grow in your ability to develop and strengthen your own response to your faith. I hope you will take advantage of these.
This Friday evening and Saturday (Mar 9-10) there will be a conference on this subject. You can get more information here ( http://www.apologeticscanada.com/conference-2012/)
Also, this next Sunday at The Bridge we will have a guest speaker, Dan Arsenault, who will be speaking on the reason we can trust that Jesus is the only way to God. This will be a great opportunity to also invite a friend who is not so sure about why Jesus is the exclusive path to God.
Each of us must develop in our own minds, our own response to the questions of our faith that come our ways. I promise your faith will grow as you learn more about what Jesus has provided us, and then develop your own responses to explain this incredible news to your friends and family.
