Taking The Bridge into the streets!
“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” John 7:38
The Bridge passed out thousands of cups of water and Gatorade to the runners of the Vancouver Marathon and had a great time doing it.
Sunday morning is usually the time that The Bridge gathers for worship at the Vancouver Museum, but this last Sunday they literally took The Bridge out into the streets by volunteering with the Vancouver Marathon at water station number 12, the 21 mile mark of the run. Nearly 40 people from The Bridge made it out to cheer runners on as they handed them a drink of water or cleaned the cups up as the runners went by.
Clint Kabler did a fantastic job of interfacing with the Marathon staff and organizing The Bridge’s involvement. His reflections on the day were: “we were able to contribute to an event that our community (Kitsilano) values. I believe one of the best ways to dialogue with our community is to follow Paul's example to the Corinthians, "I have become all things to all [wo]men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings." Today, we continued a journey of sharing in its [the gospel's] blessings.”
It was exciting to see so many from The Bridge involved, even the children were able to take part. Everyone from long-term members to recent guests got involved and many new friendships were started.
Pierre Lapointe helped clean up the cups and said: “I found the event a lot of fun and most inspiring. Count me in for next year.”
At The Bridge, those who serve others and those who share Jesus with others are our heroes, this week we have lots of heroes at The Bridge!
